OUR HISTORY, MISSION, VISION AND MORE ...

OUR HISTORY

In 1993, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana established a national Prison Ministry and put in place a council of members from the Presbyterian Church, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, the Accra Ridge Church and the Accra Baptist Association. Since then, the Ministry has become more ecumenical with deeper involvement and commitment of these and other partners namely:

  • The Accra Diocese of the Anglican Church
  • The Methodist Church, Ghana,
  • Korle-Bu Community Chapel,
  • The Lighthouse Chapel International, Royal House Chapel International,
  • The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (Gateway Chapter),
  • The Kingsway International Christian Centre,
  • Christ Castle International,
  • World Vision International,
  • The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN).

Also our foreign partnering churches, Faith Presbyterian Church, Slidell, Covington Presbyterian Church and the Faith Presbyterian Church, Covington all in the U.S.A. and other churches and individuals who identify with our mission and vision

This is providential and is meeting the needs of inmates of the prisons who come from different Protestant background. It has also united the Churches to witness the Love of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to those in the Prisons who do not know Him. In working together, we reduce duplication of efforts and we utilize God’s resources effectively.

It goes without gain saying that PMG has, over the years, enjoyed tremendous support of our partnering Churches.

The Prison Ministry of Ghana is the umbrella organization for achieving the following objectives:

  • Root the prisoner in Christ to live in accordance to His word
  • Enhance the knowledge and skill of the prisoner
  • Improve the health, physical and social wellbeing of the prisoner
  • Improve the attitude of the prisoner to life, work and other people
  • Improve the quality of care of the prisoner
  • Raise the level of literacy of the prisoner
  • Other objectives specified in the Constitution of the Organization.

It is a Not-For-Profit Organization, registered under the Ghana Companies code 1963 (ACT 179) and comprises registered members of all partnering Churches in Ghana and in the rest of the world and other registered Christians who uphold the objectives of the Prison Ministry.

In 2013, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by all partnering Churches, defining the roles and responsibilities of these entities to the sustenance and growth of the Prison Ministry of Ghana. The KICC was admitted in 2016.
