The Prison Ministry of Ghana has resumed its medical outreaches to the prisons. Accordingly, on Saturday the 3rd of September 2022, 20 prison inmates from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison benefited from a successful surgical outreach by a team of surgeons and nurses arranged by the Ag. National Chairman, Prof. Joe Nat Clegg-Lamptey, from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The medical team was led by Dr. Andzie-Mensah, Senior Resident, Orthopedics Department of the Teaching Hospital.

The day began with inmates being triaged, clerked and examined to ascertain the problem each had. Relevant perioperative labs were then requested and done, and each inmate was prepared for surgery. In all, twelve (12) hernia operations with at least three involving bilateral hernias and eight (8) lipoma operations were successfully done. There were no complications after surgery. Inmates who had a hernia repair were wheeled to their cells while those who had lipoma excisions walked back to the cells.
